Watch Live Stream: Steve Mnuchin Senate Confirmation
The former Goldman Sachs banker is President Trump's nominee for Treasury secretary.

Steve Mnuchin, President Trump's nominee for Treasury secretary, goes before the Senate Friday as lawmakers continue debate on his appointment.
Just as Trump's other nominees have been, Mnuchin is expected to be confirmed. With only 51 votes needed for confirmation, and 51 Republicans in the Senate, Democrats have little ability to thwart the appointment on their own.
The only open question is whether or not any Democrats vote for the nominee.

Democrats have been sharply critical of Mnuchin, a former Goldman Sachs banker who once owned the controversial bank OneWest. Democrats on the Senate Finance Committee staged a boycott of his hearings after evidence came to light that he may have misled the senators when he testified that the bank didn't use "robo-signing," a procedure critics allege was unfair to many mortgage holders.
Republicans had to change the committee's rules to approve Mnuchin without any Democrats present.

Prior to his nomination, Mnuchin served as the Trump campaign's national finance chair.
"There’s nothing in Steve Mnuchin’s record to suggest he could stand up to Wall Street – or that he’d even want to stand up to Wall Street," said Sen. Elizabeth Warren.
She also criticized Trump for filling his administration with former Goldman Sachs people, despite the fact that he explicitly campaigned against Hillary Clinton's ties to the bank before the election.
"Trump won, and within days, hired enough Goldman Sachs alumni to open a new bank branch in the White House," she said. She listed adviser to the president Steve Bannon, National Economic Council Director Gary Cohn, and Senior Counselor Dina Powell, all former Goldman Sachs bankers like Mnuchin.
Despite some of the opposition Mnuchin has stirred among Democratic senators, he hasn't faced the impassioned resistance that Attorney General Jeff Sessions or Education Secretary Betsy DeVos faced.
