White House Placed On Lockdown After Suspicious Object Thrown Over Fence: Reports

The lockdown occurred Monday afternoon.

The White House was briefly placed on lockdown Monday afternoon after a suspicious object was thrown over the fence onto the North Lawn, according to multiple reports.

Local news video showed firefighters and people in Hazmat suits on the scene. Hazardous material checks were being conducted throughout the White House, according to Reuters.

The White House resumed normal operations, NBC News reported around 3:30 p.m. Eastern.

The Associated Press reported that a woman was in custody in connection with the incident.

President Obama was home at the time of the lockdown, Reuters reported. He visited Arlington National Cemetery earlier in the day to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
