Loaded Gun At School: Bradenton Middle School Student Charged

A 13-year-old Bradenton boy faces a number of charges after a gun was found in his possession.

BRADENTON, FL — A 13-year-old Harlee Middle School student faces a number of criminal charges after Manatee County deputies found a loaded gun in his backpack.

According to the agency, deputies were called out to the 6423 E. 9th St. school just after 9 a.m. Dec. 8. School officials had received information that the boy had brought a firearm onto the campus, an email from the sheriff’s office said.

When deputies searched the boy’s backpack, they found the loaded weapon and a small amount of marijuana. The teen told deputies he found the gun on the side of the road, the email noted.

The boy was charged with possession of a firearm on school property, carrying a concealed firearm and possession of marijuana. Patch is not releasing his name due to his age.
