ORLANDO, FL — A six-year-old flying alone on Spirit Airlines to see his grandmother in Fort Myers was accidentally placed on a flight to Orlando instead, CNN reported.

Spirit apologized to the child's family, saying that on Dec. 21, the child was supposed to fly from Philadelphia International Airport to Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers, but was “incorrectly boarded” on a plane to Orlando, according to a statement from Spirit to the outlet.

“The child was always under the care and supervision of a Spirit Team Member, and as soon as we discovered the error, we took immediate steps to communicate with the family and reconnect them,” the airline told the outlet.

Maria Ramos, who identified the child as her grandson, told WINK-TV that after the plane he was initially supposed to be on landed and he wasn’t on it, she panicked.

She told the outlet that she got a call from her grandson after he landed in Orlando, and she drove the almost 160 miles from Fort Myers to pick him up.
