📰 News we're reading

1. North Fort Myers roadway in need of repaving (winknews.com) — A North Fort Myers resident is pushing Lee County to repave his crumbling South Pacific Circle cul-de-sac, which he says is worsening with trash truck traffic and rain. The rough pavement is especially hard on elderly neighbors, including a 97-year-old resident. County officials confirm a repair request is logged, but say other roads rank higher priority and no timeline is set yet.

2. Salvation Army Breaks Ground on $22M Fort Myers Campus Expansion (fox4now.com) — A major $22 million expansion of The Salvation Army’s Center of Hope campus in Fort Myers is underway, adding new shelter, recovery, and hurricane-safe facilities over the next five years. The project, spanning four city blocks by 2030, aims to meet growing local demand for emergency housing, addiction recovery, and disaster response as Fort Myers’ population rises.

3. Christmas is the deadliest day of the year for heart patients, doctors say (fox4now.com) — Fort Myers heart specialist Dr. Scott Allen is warning local patients that Christmas Day is statistically the deadliest day of the year for cardiac deaths, largely due to holiday habits and stress. He urges residents to stick to medications, avoid overindulging in salty food and alcohol, watch for warning signs like chest pain or shortness of breath, and seek care quickly if something feels wrong.

4. Just a taste: A quick recap of the 2025 restaurant scene (naplesnews.com) — Fort Myers diners saw big changes in 2025, with longtime favorites like Joe’s Crab Shack and Roadhouse Café closing while new spots such as Tap 42, Echo, Savour and Swamp Cat Brewing opened. Several hurricane-damaged restaurants on Fort Myers Beach and nearby islands also made inspiring comebacks, and more openings — including the return of Sweet Tomatoes and new fast-food chains — are on the way.
