FGCU Water School and Island Coast High School students plant new mangrove forest on Fort Myers Beach (wgcu.org) — Students from FGCU and Island Coast High School teamed up on Fort Myers Beach to plant about 300 mangrove propagules at Bowditch Point, strengthening a natural buffer for local homes. Experts explain how mature mangroves protect the barrier island from storm surge and hurricane damage, while students say the project helps the community recover from storms like Ian and Irma.
   

2. Remote parking returning to RSW for Christmas holiday. What to know (news-press.com) — If you’re flying out of RSW for Christmas, a prepaid remote parking lot in Fort Myers will reopen Dec. 21–28 with a flat $60 fee. Travelers must reserve online in advance and use shuttle buses running between the Skyplex-area lot and the terminal. Allow extra time for parking and consider drop-offs or commercial rides if lots fill up.
   

3. Downtown Fort Myers farmers market returns to boost culinary district (fox4now.com) — A new Saturday farmers market is set to return to downtown Fort Myers as part of the city’s emerging culinary district, likely launching January 17 on First Street. City officials expect 40 vendors and thousands of visitors, hoping the market boosts nearby restaurants and shops and eventually becomes a year-round weekend staple for residents and tourists alike.
   

4. Road rage in North Fort Myers escalates to shooting, crash injures two (winknews.com) — A serious road rage incident in North Fort Myers led to gunfire and a multi-vehicle crash at Pondella Road and Northside Circle, sending two people to the hospital. Deputies are still investigating and say the situation may involve more than simple road rage. The sheriff is urging drivers to call 911, head to well-lit public places, and avoid going home if they feel followed.
   

5. Demetrius O'Neal gets two life sentences in Club Blu shooting case (northfortmyersneighbor.com) — A defendant in the 2016 Club Blu mass shooting in Fort Myers has been sentenced to two life terms plus 15 years for his role in the deadly attack. Jurors found Demetrius O’Neal guilty of two counts of second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. The case, which left two teens dead and 14 others injured, still has one defendant awaiting trial.
