The reopening of Roberto Clemente Park brings hope, inspiration and joy (wgcu.org) — Roberto Clemente Park in Fort Myers has officially reopened after major renovations, including a new playground featuring the tallest slide in Southwest Florida. City and state leaders, local advocates, and families celebrated the upgraded park, funded by city capital improvements and a state grant, with more amenities like an amphitheater and Black Cultural Center still to come.
   

2. Strays can be scanned for pet microchips at fire stations in North Fort Myers (northfortmyersneighbor.com) — If you find a stray pet in North Fort Myers, you can now take it to any of three North Fort Myers Fire Control District stations between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. to be scanned for a microchip. This new partnership with Lee County Domestic Animal Services aims to quickly reunite lost pets with their owners and better serve northern Lee County neighborhoods.
   

3. Woodpecker delights onlookers at Six Mile Cypress Slough in Fort Myers (news-press.com) — Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve in Fort Myers offers locals an easy escape into nature, where recent visitors spotted a striking Pileated Woodpecker along the 1.2‑mile boardwalk. The preserve’s green-certified interpretive center and abundant wildlife, from otters to herons, make it a close-to-home spot to explore something new outdoors.
   

4. This Fort Myers, FL Denny's restaurant closed. Will others close, too? (naplesnews.com) — A longtime Denny’s at Summerlin Road and Gladiolus Drive in south Fort Myers has closed and was sold this November to Storage Unlimited LLC. The shutdown is part of Denny’s nationwide effort to close underperforming locations, even as the chain changes ownership and remodels or upgrades other restaurants across Florida and the country.
   

5. Blues, parks, steaks & holiday lights (naplesnews.com) — Holiday light hunters can use a new 2025 interactive map to track standout Christmas displays across Fort Myers and neighboring cities, and even submit new finds.
