MIAMI BEACH, FL — Shooting for "Bad Boys III" has taken a detour of sorts — around the MacArthur Causeway.

The scenic roadway between downtown Miami and South Beach was to be shut down in both directions for a time on Sunday to accommodate filming.

But Miami Beach officials sent out the following message on Monday:

"The movie filming on the MacArthur Causeway, originally scheduled for Sunday, April 14 will no longer be taking place due to scheduling conflicts."

Melissa Berthier of the city of Miami Beach told Patch that she did not know why the production company opted to cancel the scheduled filming over the MacArthur Causeway.

Anyone who saw "Bad Boys II" with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence remembers the big chase scene over the MacArthur Causeway during the last movie.

The original scene was shot more than 16 years ago in August 2002 over a period of several days.

Motorists had been asked to take the Venetian Causeway or the Julia Tuttle during Sunday's planned shooting, but that will no longer be necessary.

Director Michael Bay of "Bad Boys II" later said that his crew somehow got through the entire car chase without damaging the Ferrari used in the scene, but that Martin Lawrence struck a concrete barrier with the passenger side door in a subsequent scene, according to website IMDB.
