Florida Is One Stressed Out State: Report
With Florida's high divorce rate, lack of affordable housing and sheer percentage of psychologists, the Sunshine State is stressed out.
MIAMI, FL -- With Florida's high divorce rate, lack of affordable housing and sheer percentage of psychologists per person, it's no wonder that the Sunshine State ranks as one of the most stressed out states in the country, according to a new study by personal finance website WalletHub.
Florida came in 11th on the list, which makes us considerably more stressed out than even New York. The Empire State finished a more laid back 21st. Even Illinois (24th), California (28th), New Jersey (34th) and Massachusetts (48th) were far less stressful places to live.
"Stress affects everyone," WalletHub penned. "Although we cannot eliminate stress entirely from our lives, we can minimize it by choosing to live in the least toxic environments."

The website said American stress levels have been rising since 2016.
"Common stressors include the future of America and money, along with health insurance costs," the website found. "But not all demographics are affected in the same way. For example, millennials have the highest average stress levels."

"Our data set ranges from average hours worked per week to personal bankruptcy rate to share of adults getting adequate sleep," said Wallethub.
Here's how Florida stacked up against the other states (1=Most Stressed, 25=Avg.):
- 25th – Average hours worked per week
- 22nd – Share of adults getting adequate sleep
- 20th – Percentage of adults in fair/poor health
- 16th – Median credit score
- 8th – Housing affordability
- 16th –Percentage of population living below poverty line

Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas topped the list of the most stressed out states while Minnesota, Utah and Massachusetts were the least stressed out states, according to WalletHub.
