MIAMI BEACH, FL -- Gunshots erupted on the Julia Tuttle Causeway Monday after someone photographed a vehicle "tossing garbage" in Miami Beach.

The shooting took place along the westbound lanes of Julia Tuttle Causeway around 2:55 p.m., according to Ernesto Rodriguez of the Miami Beach Police Department.

"Preliminary information revealed the subject vehicle was traveling northbound along Alton Road before entering the Julia Tuttle Causeway," Rodriguez explained. "The vehicle was observed by the victims tossing garbage from within their vehicle. The victims were photographing the vehicle and may have been observed doing so by the subjects."

Rodriguez said the passenger fired three shots, one of which "grazed" the other vehicle.

"The victims pulled over and contacted police," Rodriguez said. "Thankfully, there were no injuries during this incident."

Miami Beach police were withholding additional details of the incident to avoid compromising the investigation.
