Head Of Missing FL Swimmer ID'ed After Washing Ashore: Reports

A Miami Beach rip current swept the missing swimmer, leading to his disappearance, and his head washed ashore in Key Biscayne, reports say.

KEY BISCAYNE, FL — A human head that washed ashore on a South Florida beach Tuesday has been identified as a missing 19-year-old man who disappeared in the ocean nearly a week before the discovery, per media reports.

The human head, which was found by a beach staffer near Key Biscayne, belonged to Victor Enrique Castaneda Jr., per the Miami Herald and NBC News.

What led to the head being severed from its body is unknown. No other remains were found.

Castaneda disappeared on Nov. 9 after getting swept in a rip current near Miami Beach, the Miami Herald reported.

A Good Samaritan rescued Castaneda's sister, and when he returned to save Castaneda, he could not find the swimmer, NBC News reported.
