Miami Man Killed Family Before Fatally Shooting Himself: Police

A Miami man shot and killed his wife and two children before killing himself. They were dead for a week before a police check found them.

MIAMI, FL — A Miami husband and father shot and killed his wife, and teenage daughter and son, before taking his own life, police said Tuesday.

The Miami-Dade Police Department's, Homicide Bureau, is investigating the domestic murder-suicide that resulted in the deaths of a family of four. About 9 p.m. Sunday officers received a call requesting a check on the welfare of a family at 17400 N.W. 68th Ave., No. 212.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue helped police enter the residence, where they found four people dead from apparent gunshot wounds. Police said they noticed what a news release described as a "distinct foul odor emitting from the apartment."

The residents in the apartment had been dead for more than a week, police said.

An update issued Tuesday by police said it appears that Victor Penalba Gonzalez, 60, shot and killed his wife, Yumara Martinez Morejon, 50; daughter, Stephanie Penalba, 13; and son, Jason Penalba, 18, before taking his own life.

Penalba Gonzalez and Martinez Morejon were married in 2007.
