MIAMI, FL -- A Miami mom didn't get medical help for her 6-year-old child even though she was told that the child was grazed by a gunshot, according to the Miami Police Department.

Twenty-one-year-old Laqayette Verlinda Dock was charged with child neglect with great bodily harm and failure to report child abuse or neglect.

The incident happened Saturday when an 8-year-old cousin fired the weapon in the direction of the six-year-old. The bullet "grazed" the child's neck.

On Sunday, the child's biological dad told Dock how the child was injured a day earlier.

"The defendant admitted she was advised by the victim's aunt to take the victim to the hospital immediately for treatment," arrest documents said. "However, she never took the victim."

On Monday, the child told school officials about the incident.

"The victim disclosed to the school principal he was shot by his 8-year-old cousin while on spring break," arrest documents said.

School officials called Miami Fire Rescue, which took the child to Jackson Memorial Hospital's emergency room for treatment.
