Orange Bowl Alum In The Big Game
Other Orange Bowl alum on the Patriots include Shaq Mason, who helped anchor the Georgia Tech offensive line in the 2014 Orange Bowl; Dwayne Allen, who played an integral role in Clemson’s 2012 Orange Bowl season as well as a pair of Iowa Hawkeyes: James Ferentz and Adrian Clayborn, who anchored the Hawkeyes’ offensive and defensive lines in the 2010 Orange Bowl.
Braxton Berrios and Trent Harris, teammates on the Miami Hurricanes’ 2017 Capital One Orange Bowl team, are on the Patriots’ Reserve List. Tight end, Ryan Izzo, who is also on the Patriots’ Reserve List, appeared in the 2016 Capital One Orange Bowl with Florida State.
The NFC Champion Los Angeles Rams have four Orange Bowl alums on their roster eager to etch their name in history as part of the first Los Angeles Rams Super Bowl winning team. Rams’ veteran cornerback and MVP of Kansas’ 2008 Orange Bowl title, Aqib Talib, scored the first touchdown of that game on a 60-yard interception return. It was one of three Jayhawks’ interceptions that day which resulted in 17 points in a 24-21 victory over Virginia Tech.
Fellow member of the Rams’ secondary, safety Lamarcus Joyner, was part of the 2013 Orange Bowl champion Florida State Seminoles. Rounding out the foursome of Rams’ Orange Bowl alums are Ogbonnia Okoronkwo and Steven Parker (Parker is on the Rams’ practice squad). They were defensive teammates on Oklahoma’s 2015 College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Capital One Orange Bowl team.
