Suspected South Beach Shooter Surrenders To Police
The suspected South Beach shooter turned himself in to police, according to Ernesto Rodriguez of the Miami Beach Police Department.

MIAMI BEACH, FL — The suspected South Beach shooter walked into the Miami Beach Police Department with his lawyer Thursday and surrendered to police without incident, according to Ernesto Rodriguez of the Miami Beach Police Department.
He was identified as 32-year-old Alan Michael Alt, who listed his occupation as laborer and his permanent address as the 100 block of Rivershore Drive in San Mateo, Florida. Alt was charged with second-degree murder with a weapon and aggravated assault with a firearm.
Miami Beach police released dramatic video earlier this week of a gunman opening fire over the weekend in tourist favorite South Beach just steps away from iconic Ocean Drive and a number of outdoor cafes.

The shooter can be seen firing a single shot near the seawall at 13 Street before heading on foot to 14 Street and Collins Avenue where he is believed to have opened fire on a 33-year-old man with history of criminal offenses. The victim died a short time later at Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center.
Arrest documents said Alt provided a notarized sworn statement in which he claimed that the victim attacked him from behind by hitting him on the back of the head.

"The defendant fell forward onto his hands and knees after which the victim got on top of the defendant and continued beating him," arrest documents said of Alt's statement. "The defendant felt a sharp object pressing into his back and believed that the victim was attempting to remove the defendant's wallet."
Using city surveillance cameras and private cameras, Rodriguez said the shooter could be seen entering a public park that leads to the beach at 11 Street and Ocean Drive before he opened fire the first time. Police initially had not said that the shooter fired in two separate locations.

"The subject is then seen firing a single shot near the seawall at 13 Street," Rodriguez explained. "There were no reported injuries nor were there any 9-1-1 calls received." Arrest documents maintain that Alt was actually firing in the direction of two men, who had been sitting on the beach side of the seawall.
The shooter was then tracked toward 14 Street and Collins Avenue where the homicide occurred.
"After a confrontation with the victim, the subject fires and strikes the victim multiple times," Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez said that the man made his way to the One Hotel near 23 Street and Collins Avenue where he was refused entry.
In addition to a maximum $3,000 reward from Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers, the Greater Miami-Miami Beach Police Foundation posted an additional $5,000 in reward money.
Rodriguez said the homicide occurred around 11:41 p.m. Saturday. Miami Beach police still had not released the name of the victim as of Thursday pending notification of the next of kin.
The victim was described as having a history of arrests for numerous petty offenses as well as aggravated battery, narcotics sales and possession as well as armed robbery. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken by the Miami Beach Fire Department to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center where he died shortly after arriving.
Miami Beach police said traffic was disrupted in the area on Sunday morning around the crime scene.
