MIAMI, FL — Mexican telenovela star Pablo Lyle was inside a Miami courtroom Monday in connection with an alleged road rage incident involving a 63-year-old man whom the actor could be seen striking on video. The man passed away from his injuries four days later.

Lyle, who holds U.S. citizenship, has been charged thus far with felony battery and was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Monday. It was not immediately clear if prosecutors plan to elevate the charge following the victim's death.

"We're asking that the bond be elevated to $1 million, that the defendant be placed on GPS with an ankle monitor, that the no-travel order be reentered, that he be asked to surrender his passport," Genevieve Valle of the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office told the judge during Monday's hearing.

Lyle has entered a written plea of not guilty stemming from the March 31 incident. The actor told Miami police that he was protecting his family when he delivered the single blow to Juan Ricardo Hernandez around 7:16 p.m.

His attorney argued that Lyle is not a flight risk and that he has complied with each of the court's requirements thus far.

"When he was told of this investigation, he said 'I'm staying,'" Lyle's defense attorney told the judge. "Here he is. He signed a waiver of extradition."

According to IMDB, Lyle's first appearance in a telenovela was nine years ago in "Verano de Amor." He made his protagonist debut in "La Sombra del Pasado." Lyle and his wife, Ana Araujo, have a son, Mauro.

Arrest documents said that the altercation came after the SUV in which Lyle was riding made a wrong turn on its way to Miami International Airport and cut off Hernandez' vehicle on NW 27 Avenue as the driver attempted to make u-turn at the intersection of NW 14th Street.

Witnesses told police that Lyle jumped out of the passenger side of the vehicle and struck Hernandez. The SUV belongs to Lyle's brother-in-law.

"The victim fell to the found and sustained a fracture to the right side of the skull which caused internal bleeding," arrest documents said. "The defendant entered the vehicle passenger side, and they fled the scene."

A witness gave police the license tag number and Lyle was arrested at Miami International Airport.

Hernandez allegedly blew his horn after he was cut off and then got out of his vehicle to confront the driver.

"The victim walked up to the driver side window with an open hand and began pounding on the driver side window," arrest documents said.

The altercation with Lyle came as his brother-in-law's SUV started rolling toward the intersection.

"When he finally stop the car, he saw the defendant run back into the vehicle and asked him to drive away," arrest documents said.

The driver of Lyle's SUV made another u-turn and saw the victim laying on the ground, but told police that he did not know Lyle struck the man.

"Nor did the defendant say anything," arrest document explained.

"The witnesses stated that they observed the victim with his hands up and the defendant striking the victim one time in the face area," arrest documents said.

Lyle told Miami police that he confronted Hernandez to protect his family.

"The defendant further stated that he reacted because he believed that the victim was going to strike first," arrest documents explained. Lyle also said he told the driver to leave the area because he saw a man running towards him.
