They also found Robert John Hoeffer, 76, and his sister, 69-year-old Sally Joan Hoeffer, dead with gunshot wounds, police said. Per NBC News, the former Hoeffer was a retired Catholic priest.
The relationship between Kapas and the Hoeffers is unknown. Police said the officers who were injured are expected to fully recover.
"The motive behind Kapas' actions remains unclear. However, what is clear are the heroic actions of the men and women of the Palm Bay Police Department and surrounding agencies. Responding with exceptional courage and efficiency, officers eliminated the threat, ensuring the safety of our community," police said in a news release.

"Throughout his priesthood, Father Hoeffner served the people of God with compassion and humility. We will miss his grace-filled presence. We know he and his sister are received by the Lord with mercy and love. We also pray for the two police officers who were injured yesterday and for our public servants who safeguard our community, and extend our gratitude to them during this difficult time."
