Palm Coast Student Suffers Rat Bite During School Demo: Report

The student's Buddy Taylor Middle teacher was placed on administrative leave after the incident, a media report says.

PALM COAST, FLA — A Buddy Taylor Middle School teacher was placed on paid administrative leave after a student was bitten by a rat during a demonstration of feeding cows, WESH 2 reported Friday.

The outlet identified the teacher as Lynette Monahan. She was showing how she handles pest in the school barn when a group of rats escaped, and some of the students began picking up the rats, WESH 2 reported.

A boy was bitten and was later taken to the hospital by his parents.

A second student claimed to have been bitten but no marks or scratches were found, the outlet reported.

The Florida Department of Children and Families is investigating both of the students' claims.
