SWAT Standoff With Accused Police Shooter Ends In Suspect's Self-Inflicted Death: Police

Police say Jordan Jackson, wanted in connection with the death of Henry County Police Officer Paramhan Desai, shot himself as SWAT neared.

RIVERDALE, GA — A man wanted in connection with the shooting death of a Henry County Police officer is dead after a SWAT standoff late Tuesday night, according to reports.

In a statement, the Henry County Sheriff's Office said Jordan Jackson was found hiding in a friend’s apartment near Riverdale.

Accused of shooting Henry County Police Officer Paramhans Desai on Thursday night when the officer attempted to make an arrest, Jordan had been on the run, garnering a more-than-$60,000 reward for his capture. Desai was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition after the incident and died from his injuries Monday.

Among many community members and law enforcement personnel, NBA Hall-of-Famer and Henry County Sheriff’s Office Community Relations Director Shaquille O’Neal donated $5,000 to the reward.

Jackson was considered armed and dangerous, and a SWAT team was enlisted to bring him in, according to the Henry County Sheriff's Office. When Jackson barricaded himself in a room, the SWAT team was able to get "feet away" from him inside the apartment.

“The subject took his own life seconds before being captured," the statement said.

Henry County Sheriff Reginald Scandrett thanked members of the many local, state and federal law enforcement agencies that aided Henry County Police and his department in finding Jackson.

“Let this be a warning and reminder to anyone contemplating any crime let
alone a crime of this magnitude where it involves one of our own. It doesn’t matter how many days it takes, how much sleep we lose, we will hunt you down and find you,” Henry County Sheriff Reginald Scandrett said. “To the family of Officer Desai, this will not take away the
pain but, hopefully, they can get some rest and start the healing process.”

The Georgia Bureau of Investigations continues to lead the investigation and, along with the Clayton County Medical Examiner’s Office, will make the final determination on the cause of Jackson’s death.
