2-Year-Old Kills Self With Dad's Gun: Police

A 2-year-old child is dead after Acworth police say he accidentally shot himself with his father’s gun on Tuesday evening.

Initial investigation into the incident shows that the boy was able to grab the handgun off a bed after his father stepped away from it around 7:30 p.m., police spokeswoman Youlanda Leverette told Patch. A 4-year-old boy who also lives in the home in the 1000 block of Athena Court was unharmed; the mother of the children was not at home at the time of the incident, Leverette said.

The investigation is still in its preliminary stages, according to Leverette.
