2 Charged, 2 At Large In Fatal Athens Shooting Of 3-Year-Old: Police

All four suspects are being charged on suspicion of murder, aggravated assault and violation of the Georgia street gang act, police said.

ATHENS, GA — A second suspect in the Spring Valley Road shooting that killed a 3-year-old child Friday has been arrested, Athens-Clarke County Police said.

The fatal shooting happened around 5:30 p.m., when two children were shot, police said. A 3-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other child was taken to a local hospital with non-threatening injuries, police said.

Police said Jayden Brown, 16, of Athens, was arrested Wednesday and charged on suspicion of malice and felony murder, four counts of aggravated assault and violation of the Georgia Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act.

Another suspect who police identified as Julian Cubillos, 17, of Lawrenceville, was arrested Friday on suspicion of the same charges, police previously said.

Additionally, police said 18-year-old Dakious Echols and 22-year-old Desmontrez Mathis are at large and face similar charges in connection with the fatal shooting.

Police have not revealed a motive in the shooting.

Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspects, police said.
