Pedestrian Killed After Being Hit By Car In Athens

The 78-year-old man was crossing Danielsville Road, where he was hit by a Chrysler, police said.

ATHENS — A 78-year-old man was killed Wednesday after being hit by a car while crossing Danielsville Road near an elementary school, Athens-Clarke County Police said Thursday.

The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of Danielsville and Fernwood Court, police said.

Police identified the man as Jewell Jarrells, who they said was hit by a 2013 Chrysler 200 being driven by a 55-year-old Athens woman.

No charges had been filed as of Thursday; however, the crash is still being investigated, police said.

Police ask anyone who may have seen Jarrells along the roadway, or have information about the fatal crash, to call Senior Police Officer Dustin Tilley, (762) 400-7355, or Sgt. Robert Schulte, (762) 400-7093.

This is the 20th fatal crash resulting in 21 deaths in Athens-Clarke County this year, police said.
