Atlanta Couple's Dead Cat Receives Voter Registration Application
Had their cat still been alive, the Atlanta couple said their beloved feline would have voted "Democat."
ATLANTA, GA — Just when 2020 couldn't get any stranger, ladies and gentlemen, it officially has. An Atlanta woman has been left scratching her head in bewilderment after receiving a voter registration application in the mail Wednesday — not for herself or her husband, but for her cat.
And by the way, to top it off, her cat, Cody, has been dead for 12 years.
"I'm not sure who else they're trying to register. I'm not sure if they're trying to register dogs, mice, snakes," Carol Tims, the late cat's owner, told Fox 5.

The Georgia Secretary of State's Office told the station that its staff did not send out the form and that third-party groups use mailing lists to get names and addresses— and that apparently includes cats, too.
"Third-party groups all over the country are targeting Georgia to help register qualified individuals. This group makes you wonder what these out-of-town activists are really doing. Make no mistake about it, this office is dedicated to investigating all types of fraud," the Georgia Secretary of State's Office said in a statement.

Hypothetically, even if Cody were still alive today and showed up at the polls, he would have been turned away — and with good reason, of course. During his time on Earth, Cody did not have a license or state ID — which is required for voting.
If Cody could have voted, though, Tims told the station her beloved feline would have voted “Democat.”
The voter registration deadline for all Aug. 11 primary runoff elections in Georgia is now July 13, according to the Secretary of State's office.
Georgia voters who have updated their voter registration since the June 9 primary will be eligible to vote in their updated location in the Aug. 11 primary runoff. Check your voter registration status and confirm the location of your polling place on the office's My Voter Page.
