ATLANTA, GA—The Atlanta Police Department has released video of a person of interest in the fatal shooting of 8-year-old Secoriea Turner. Officers are hoping the video will shed some light on those responsible for her death.

“First and foremost, on behalf of the Atlanta Police Department, I want to offer sincere condolences and prayers to the family of 8-year-old Secoriea Turner. In this instance, that is not enough,” Lt. Pete Malecki with the Atlanta Police Department said during a news conference Tuesday.

“This is one of several individuals who are a person of interest in this case. I’m confident that somebody knows the name of this man,” Lt. Malecki said.

On July 4 around 9:45 p.m., Turner was the passenger of a 2016 Jeep Cherokee. According to police, the SUV was travelling westbound on University Avenue when it came across a makeshift roadblock manned by several armed people.

“I’m not sure what the purpose was. It’s something we hope to figure out,” Lt. Malecki said when asked the reason for the roadblock and why it was guarded.

When the vehicle, which also contained Turner’s mother and her mother's friend, attempted to get around the roadblock, police said shots were fired into the SUV, in turn, striking Turner. The 8-year-old was rushed to Atlanta Medical Center where she died. The deadly shooting happened near the Wendy's where Rayshard Brooks died last month.

Police are now offering a $20,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest in this case. Lt. Malecki said he also believes there are also likely more suspects.

“There were multiple individuals out there armed with rifles,” he said. “We believe at this point there is going to be at minimum three additional suspects.”
