- An Atlanta police officer helped deliver a baby boy when his parents couldn't make it to the hospital. A veteran APD lieutenant was in a patrol vehicle over the weekend when he came across a soon-to-be mother and father rushing to get to the hospital to deliver their baby, according to police. The lieutenant and several other supervisors in the car began using their lights and sirens to help them travel faster, but when it was clear they wouldn't make it to the hospital in time, an unnamed lieutenant helped the woman deliver the baby. Body camera footage captured the moment. (WSB Atlanta)
- On Friday, Gov. Kemp signed an order to extend the suspension of Georgia state gas taxes. The move comes as the order was getting set to expire on Jul. 14. The suspension will now last until Aug. 13. (Atlanta Patch)
- Atlanta’s public safety task force held its first meeting on Thursday night. The first city-wide public safety task force met to address some of the city’s most urgent issues. In attendance were representatives from law enforcement, the public defender’s office, public health experts, and business leaders — all gathered to brainstorm solutions. (CBS 46 News)
