- On Friday, a man was arrested after jumping approximately 60 feet off the side of the highway to escape Atlanta police. According to the Atlanta Police Department, an officer was conducting a traffic stop on I-75 with a suspected DUI driver. After his daring escape, the 29-year-old driver was eventually found in a wooded area underneath the interstate, at which time he was taken to the hospital in stable condition. (11Alive.com WXIA)
- Zoo Atlanta recently reintroduced 25 eastern indigo snakes to their native ecosystem in Alabam's Conecuh National Forest. The zoo has reared over 100 eastern indigo snakes as part of a longtime conservation partnership with the forest. This particular species is reported to have significant positive ecological benefits for the region.(WSB Atlanta)
- A local group is proposing a plan to top the Midtown Atlanta connector with green space. The proposed deck to be built over the interstate would include trails, outdoor cafés, and even an amphitheater. The Midtown Connector Project Foundation recently completed a three-year feasibility study and stated the project is "shovel-worthy" as long as it can secure the necessary funding. (CBS 46 News)
- This past Saturday, the Atlanta Police Department held a city-wide training in hopes of increasing community safety. The training was designed to teach residents how to keep their communities safe, as well as the available resources to support that mission. Attendees learned ways to lessen the likelihood of becoming a victim of crime, as well as how to begin their own neighborhood watch program. (CBS 46 News)
- Meals On Wheels Atlanta works to support seniors (and their pets) who are struggling with hunger. The nonprofit has been providing services to local seniors since 1965, and launched its Pet Pantry program in 2010. This past year, MOWA has been renovating its HQ and building a new kitchen, with the goal of nearly doubling its current output. Anyone interested in getting involved or donating to MOWA can do so here. (Reporter Newspapers)
