- The Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs provides funds to a number of local artists and nonprofit organizations each year! Reports for these grants are due by Jul. 30, 2022. - A Spirit Airlines flight briefly caught fire on the runway at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Sunday morning. The flight was landing from Tampa, FL. Reports found that the brakes overheated upon landing. Atlanta Fire Rescue safely doused the fire and no injuries were reported. (3 WWAY)
- There have been at least 10 reported shootings with up to three fatalities and multiple injuries in the Atlanta metro area over the past week. One of the fatal shootings happened outside of a Quick Trip gas station on Peachtree Corners in Gwinnett County on Sunday afternoon. For details on these and other local shootings, see the link. - Clayton County Public Schools is the latest district to only permit clear backpacks inside schools. CCPS announced in June it was considering the move but recently announced the rule will officially take place and affects students in grades 3 through 12. The school district is encouraging parents to find clear backpacks but will provide for students as needed. Schools in North and South Carolina, Texas, and Florida have acquired similar policies.
