Here are the top five stories in Atlanta today:

  1. Looking for a way to shop more sustainably? The Rounds is a company that recently has brought sustainable online shopping to the Atlanta area. Rather than using cardboard and plastic to deliver items like shampoo and pasta sauce, all products are delivered in reusable canvas totes, and empty bottles are collected and reused weekly. The company has already taken off in Philadelphia and Miami, but it plans to expand its routes throughout Atlanta this month and throughout the summer. (Reporter Newspapers)
  2. Late Tuesday night, there was a shooting on Proctor Street that left an Atlanta woman in critical condition. As a result of a verbal argument that later turned into a physical fight, the woman was shot in the face and had to be taken into medical care. The police have yet to announce information about the suspects or the victim, but anyone with information that could help with the case should contact the Atlanta Police Department immediately. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  3. Looking for a house can be difficult, but luckily, there are plenty of open houses coming up in the Atlanta area. Patch and Redfin have compiled a list of beautiful local homes for sale that will be holding open houses this week. This Sunday, Jul. 10, there are two showings in nearby Decatur: one for a 4-bed, 3-bath for $415,000, and another for a 5-bed, 3-bath for $500,000. (Atlanta Patch)
  4. In a shooting near Metropolitan Pkwy, a 16-year-old girl was shot by her friend's ex-boyfriend. The victim was with her 19-year-old friend in a car when the friend’s ex-boyfriend began shooting at them from the outside. Both girls called police officers around 11:30 p.m. on Northside Drive. The 16-year-old was taken to a hospital for her injuries and is currently in stable condition. (Atlanta Patch)
  5. A proposal to add rangers to city parks was presented at Monday’s Atlanta City Council meeting. Due to an increase in crime and violence, city leaders believe that this step will help keep the community safer. Bryan Amos, one of the city authorities pushing for this proposal, would like rangers to have similar authority to police officers so that in the case of an emergency, they could be able to stop a crime from happening. While there is no set timeline for this proposal, Amos plans to meet with Mayor Andre Dickens to discuss a study where they could test how rangers would impact the community. (WSB Atlanta)
