📰 News we're reading
• Churchgoing woman suffered severe burns in random toxic chemical attack while walking at park (legitgov.org) — A Savannah woman who was randomly doused with a corrosive chemical while walking in Forsyth Park is now being treated at the Augusta Burn Center for severe burns over half her body. The attacker has not been caught, and her family says the liquid burned through her clothes and even melted her car key fob. Her case highlights the critical role Augusta’s burn center plays in major trauma care across Georgia.

• Local church helps 51 children through Christmas toy drive (wrdw.com) — A local Augusta church’s Gifts of Grace program helped brighten Christmas for 51 children from 17 families by providing toys during a tough holiday season. Altared Doers Church volunteers, many drawing on their own hardships, say they hope to expand the effort next year so even more Augusta families feel supported and included.

• Better sleep may shield against mental health problems in kids (futurity.org) — Researchers connected to Augusta University and UGA say better sleep could help protect kids, especially in low-income families, from suicidal thoughts and emotional struggles. Using brain scans and national data, they found that consistent, high-quality sleep and strong brain connectivity may buffer the effects of economic hardship. They urge pediatricians and schools to screen for sleep problems and support healthier routines.
