• Restaurant Inspections: Find out which McDonald's in Augusta scored 77 (augustachronicle.com) — Health inspectors recently checked dozens of restaurants in Augusta, Grovetown, Evans and nearby areas, and one Augusta McDonald’s on Deans Bridge Road scored a low 77. Several Augusta spots, including Tbonz Steakhouse and local schools and hospitals, earned high or perfect scores, giving residents a clear picture of where recent inspections found spotless kitchens and where more training is needed.
   

• Augusta activates warming shelters amid freezing temperatures (wjbf.com) — Augusta officials have opened local warming shelters to protect residents from dangerous freezing temperatures, with overnight stays requiring clearance from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office before 5 p.m. Those without ID can still be helped, and the Salvation Army’s Center of Hope is expanding capacity so people can stay indoors all day and night out of the cold.
   

• Ga. recipients of health subsidies worry as expiration looms (wrdw.com) — From Augustans who rely on Affordable Care Act premium subsidies are bracing for higher health insurance costs as enhanced tax credits are set to expire Dec. 31. Residents with chronic conditions fear the original subsidy levels and a proposed Republican-backed health-savings-style alternative won’t cover the care they need to stay healthy and insured.
