A senior is headed to college after his short film won a full four-year ride to Savannah College of Art and Design.
Wes Sherwin's film on child abuse, When I Close My Eyes, beat out entrants from seven countries in the school's Film Challenge, said the Bartow County Board of Education when it at its regular meeting and said he won first place in the competition.
In a press release, the college said the competition is an opportunity for high school and secondary students from around the world to win an artistic scholarship for their most imaginative live-action short film.

Requirements for winning films included originality, craftsmanship and creative use of technical tools. Filmmakers of all skill sets, from directors and editors to sound supervisors and scriptwriters, were encouraged to apply.
Sherwin won the platinum award while Virginia and New York students won the gold and silver levels, respectively.

The winners were offered scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $3,000 per year, which are renewable until completion of a bachelor’s degree.
