DeKalb, Gwinnett, Barrow, Walton and parts of Fulton counties were added to the freeze warning around 2:15 p.m.

These counties will be placed under a freeze watch, effective Wednesday night through Thursday morning.

According to the weather service, "frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing."

Residents are encouraged to protect their plants from the cold.

The weather service said residents should also prevent pipes freezing by wrapping them, draining them or allowing them to slowly drip.

In-ground sprinklers should be drained, and above-ground pipes should be covered to keep them from freezing, weather officials said.
