Adding a dog or cat to the family might be the perfect Christmas present, but there are lots of animals in need of homes in metro Atlanta.
GEORGIA — For many families, a house does not become a home until a furry friend is running around. This time of year, plenty of dogs and cats are adopted as a Christmas gift. But there are even more animals waiting across metro Atlanta for their fur-ever home.
Patch rounded up a list of local animal shelters, their current adoption specials or events, and more, so you can find the purr-fect fit for your family.

After attending a new foster orientation, Atlanta Humane will set up a virtual home check as required by the Department of Agriculture. From there, you will receive emails once or twice a week listing the animals in need of fostering, which you may choose to foster.
Atlanta Humane will provide fosters with everything needed, including food, toys, and medical support.

On the third Saturday of the month, Lifeline hosts a vaccine clinic at its College Park Spay and Neuter Clinic. This is an appointment only event. Call 678-973-2881 or email clinic2@lifelineanimal.org to book an appointment.

There are many LifeLine foster opportunities, both short and long term.

Fostering
Fostering is available through Furkids after filling out an application and completing a home check. Periodic emails will be sent for available pets to foster. Find out how to foster cats and dogs online.

- Training for a Cause: PAWS Atlanta has teamed up with Canine PhD to offer training to all interested pups and people interested in building a better relationship with each other. Not only are these classes and workshops offered at a discounted rate, 100 percent of the proceeds are going to their shelter pets.
- Four week series from Jan. 15-Feb. 5, 2022

- Vaccination Clinics: Vaccine clinics after offered every other Sunday, from 10 a.m. to noon, with no appointment needed. Clinics are held at 5287 Covington Highway in Decatur.

Fostering
PAWS Atlanta has a limited amount of space for homeless cats and dogs at the shelter, so fostering helps more animals be saved.
