Man Killed In Bartow Car Accident Was College Student

The 21-year-old Madison, Alabama, resident died Thursday evening in an accident on I-75 in Bartow County.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — The 21-year-old man who died Thursday evening in a single-vehicle accident was a college student enrolled at a university in Tennessee. That's according to a spokesperson with Middle Tennessee State University, who confirmed this information with Patch.

Jackson Rumley, of Madison, Alabama, was a junior majoring in mechatronics engineering at the Murfreesboro, Tennessee, institution, said Jimmy Hart, director of news and media relations at MTSU.

Rumley driving a 2002 Nissan Maxima around 8 p.m. Jan. 10 in the left lane on the southbound side of Interstate 75 near mile marker 293 when he lost control of the vehicle, the Georgia State Patrol previously told Patch.

Rumley was trying to negotiate a right curve when the Nissan veered off the road and into the median, continued through a ditch and up the embankment. The Maxima rotated counter-clockwise, struck a tree on its right side and came to a stop. Rumley was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to his obituary, Rumley graduated from Bob Jones High School in 2016. He played on the school's baseball team for four years.

"Tough day for the patriot family as we lost one of our own, 2016 graduate Jackson Rumley, in an automobile accident," Bob Jones Baseball said Friday on its Facebook page. "Please keep the Rumley family and Bob Jones Baseball family in your prayers during this difficult time."

While at MTSU, Rumley was a member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. The MTSU Fraternity and Sorority Life organization said it was "deeply saddened" by Rumley's passing, and encouraged its follower to keep the students' family and friends in their thoughts and prayers.

Rumley's funeral service will be held at 3 pm. Tuesday, Jan. 15 at Legacy Chapel in Madison, Alabama, his obituary added.
