Sheriff's Office Investigating Arson Inside Cartersville Store

Several packets of toilet paper were found burned inside Dollar General in Cartersville.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — The Bartow County Sheriff's Office was called to a report of an unusual case of arson on Monday in Cartersville.

A deputy was dispatched around 6:47 p.m. Jan. 7 to a call of a fire at Dollar General on Village Drive. According to an incident report released by the department, an employee said she was informed by customers that "there was a fire at the rear of the business."

The woman evacuated the store, and said she was not aware of any possible subjects who could be involved in the incident.

A witness said he noticed smoke coming from the back of the store, and he called 911. The deputy ventured to the area where the fire occurred, and discovered several packs of toilet paper were charred, the incident report adds. A fire investigator was called to assist with the probe.

Surveillance footage obtained by the sheriff's office showed a man wearing a black jacket and white shirt standing in the area where the fire ignited.

"He is then seen rushing out the store with a female," according to the report.
