Possible Tornado, Severe Storms Likely Friday In Georgia

Showers and thunderstorms are likely before 2 p.m. on Friday across North Georgia, with a slight risk of a tornado.

GEORGIA — Strong thunderstorms with a slight risk of a tornado possible on Friday across north Georgia.

The National Weather Service said there will likely be rounds of severe weather. Portions of north and central Georgia, along and west of I-75, are under a slight risk, with extreme west central Georgia under an enhanced risk.

A line of storms currently off to the west will enter the area by 10 a.m., NWS said. There will be strong winds, and the possibility of tornadoes and hail into the afternoon. In the west central Georgia area, a strong tornado is possible.

"Make sure to have multiple ways to receive warnings today," the NWS said. "Secure any outdoor furniture, as winds may be strong in any storms that form."

Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 7 p.m. Cloudy, with a low around 52. South wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

A 20 percent chance of showers before 11 a.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 62. West wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
