Mother Shot, Killed While Holding Baby Near Decatur Daycare: Police

A 21-year-old mother was shot and killed by her child's father while holding the baby behind a Decatur daycare center, according to police.

DECATUR, GA — A mother was shot and killed with her baby, while trying to run away from the father, police said.

Mic'keya Montgomery, 21, was shot and killed Wednesday after the father, identified as Taco Nash, forced her to leave a daycare, police said. He shot her as she was trying to run away with the baby and he later surrendered, police said. The child was taken to a hospital for minor injuries.

Family told WAGA-TV that the shooting happened in a wooded area behind Education Elevation Children Academy on Snapfinger Park Drive in Decatur.

Montgomery was picking up her daughter Chloe after work, when Nash showed up with a gun, out of nowhere, WAGA-TV reported. Daycare workers tried to help, but told the news station that he threatened to hurt everyone so they let Montgomery leave with him.

DeKalb police responded to a domestic violence call around 3:45 p.m., WSB-TV reported. Nash dragged Montgomery and her 16-month-old daughter into a wooded area behind the daycare and shot and killed Montgomery, the TV station reported. The child was unharmed.

Montgomery’s sister, Chancierra Coleman, told WSB that Nash had been arrested several times for assaulting Montgomery, and that he even shot her recently.

Coleman told WSB that Montgomery called a family member after she was kidnapped and that she knew that her life was going to end.

“She was just saying, ‘Thank you,’ and that she loved everybody,” Coleman told the news channel. “She knew he was about to kill her.”

Nash has been charged with malice murder.
