Here are the top five stories in Douglasville today:
- A 17-year-old from Douglasville is facing felony charges in Coweta County after being clocked at over 150 mph on Interstate 85. The high-speed chase ended when the teen totaled his father's Infiniti Q50, which went airborne, catapulted over a guardrail, and landed in the woods below. The teen, miraculously unharmed, was arrested and charged with felony fleeing, possession of narcotics for a THC vape pen, speeding, and reckless driving. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
- September is National Preparedness Month with the theme "Take Control 1, 2, 3." The focus is on helping older adults who may have specific needs during a disaster. The first step is to assess their needs, understand potential disasters in the area, and ensure someone else knows about their specific requirements. "Logan's List" is recommended for those with special needs, and after a disaster, the steps to follow include assessing needs, making a plan, and engaging their support network. Additional information can be obtained from Douglas County EMA at 770-949-3007. (Douglas County Happenings via Facebook)
- Keep Douglasville Beautiful, in collaboration with the City of Douglasville and The Douglas County Lions Club, is organizing an Electronics and Scrap Metal Recycling Event on Oct. 7 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event will be held at the overflow parking lot of First Presbyterian Church in Douglasville. They will accept all electronics and metal items for free, with the exception of monitors or TVs, which have a $5 recycling fee. (www.douglasvillega.gov)
- A family is still searching for answers: Brian Wehrle, who disappeared on Sep. 23, 2009, from his parents' home in nearby Carrollton, remains missing after 14 years. His family has raised money to put up billboards in an effort to keep his face and story in the public eye and gather new information. The FBI suspects foul play as Wehrle's car, a 1992 Buick Lesabre, was found in Chattanooga, TN, with the key still in the ignition. The family hopes that these efforts will lead to someone coming forward with information about his whereabouts. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
