- Chattanooga Police collaborated with various law enforcement agencies to assist in closing a home invasion murder case that occurred in June of the previous year in Douglas County. One of the four fugitives, Jermonie Taj Suttles, 21, was apprehended in Chattanooga on Aug. 9. - Douglasville Parks and Recreation is hosting the 2nd Annual Therapeutic Fall Festival, welcoming all for a day of family fun featuring pumpkin painting, games, food, and more. The event is free and will take place at the Adaptive Field/Baseball Pavilion at Hunter Park in Douglasville. In case of rain, the event will be moved indoors to the Ike Owings Community Center. The festival encourages participation from local adult day programs, schools, and organizations involved with therapeutic recreation, with sign-up details available here. - Georgia's adoption of a new math curriculum will bring more collaborative strategies to K-12 students in Douglas and other counties this school year. Governor Brian Kemp, State Superintendent Richard Woods, and the Georgia Department of Education drove this change to improve the quality of math education for students. The new standards, developed through collaboration between educators, students, and the community, aim to provide a strong foundation for student achievement by offering deeper understanding and real-world relevance in mathematics education. - Local officials are urging citizens to prepare promptly as hurricane season encroaches. Metro Atlanta experienced severe thunderstorms on Monday, resulting in power outages due to downed power lines. While northern Georgia will likely have scattered showers and breezy winds until early Thursday, Tropical Storm Idalia has the potential to become a hurricane and intensify further before making landfall, estimated for this morning.
