DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA -- Governor Brian Kemp will tour Douglas County’s Chapel Hill High School to observe technology the school system has implemented to keep students and teachers safe throughout the school day. Kemp will speak with system administrators and teachers and take part in a real-life simulation of a teacher-initiated classroom lock down, Wednesday, May 15, at 10 a.m.

Chapel Hill High School is located at 4899 Chapel Hill Road, Douglasville.

The Douglas County school system is at the forefront of school safety, security, and technology. By partnering with Atlanta based technology company Centegix, staff members at every Douglas County school will soon wear devices that can instantly trigger a school-wide alert. The device allows a teacher to use an enhanced ID badge to call for administrative help in case of a classroom medical or disciplinary emergency. In addition, teachers and administrators will have the power to trigger a campus-wide lock down with visual and audio notifications. This teacher initiated lock down gives educators the power to notify law enforcement immediately for help. By implementing these new crisis alert badges, Douglas County schools will now be able to achieve campus-wide protection at all 35 campuses. The Douglas County School System has adopted these school security technologies in several schools and expects to have a district-wide roll out of the alert system by the beginning of next school year.
