  1. The Douglas Police Department (DPD) is actively looking for details regarding a suspect involved in an armed robbery (pictured at the link). The incident transpired at an Xfinity (Comcast) store on Chapel Hill Road. The perpetrator forcibly held an employee at gunpoint before departing the store with a substantial quantity of cell phones.   2. During a recent city council meeting, the Douglasville city council voted 6-1 to approve the 2023 millage rates, which are set at 7.711 for maintenance and operations and 1.300 for general obligation bonds.   3. Douglasville is offering a new program for anyone interested in living a healthier life. On Sep. 9, the city will host its first "Walk with a Doc" program from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at Hunter Park. The event will begin with a short discussion and then proceed with a walk and more conversation. It's noted all participants will need to sign a waiver prior to attending.   4. Douglas County School System (DCSS) Family Health Center, situated at Burnett Elementary School, is a resource for all DCSS staff and their families. They provide a range of services such as primary care, immunizations, nutrition counseling, and behavioral health services to support the well-being of families and school staff. It operates on Tuesday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., and appointments on Fridays can be made upon request. After Hurricane Idalia impacted southeast and coastal Georgia, leaving at least one person dead and causing widespread power outages, weather officials predict a calm Labor Day weekend for metro Atlanta. Damage from Idalia was reported south of Macon, with winds of 40-45 mph in some areas. Recovery efforts are ongoing, with thousands of customers still without power, and Governor Kemp plans to assess the damage in South Georgia. (Douglasville Patch)
