Dunwoody Woman Fatally Shot; Suspect Turns Gun On Self: Police

The woman was found fatally shot during a welfare check in Dunwoody while the suspect was found shot to death in a Stone Mountain park.

DUNWOODY — A woman was found shot to death during a welfare check Wednesday at Charleston Place while the suspect was found fatally shot in a Stone Mountain park, Dunwoody Police said Thursday.

Police responded around 9:30 a.m. in the 3200 block of Charleston about a missing person report after the 24-year-old woman's mother said she had not heard from her daughter, police said.

Officers were conducting a welfare check when they found the woman dead with a single gunshot wound inside an apartment, police said.

A possible suspect and vehicle were identified, and police used Flock cameras to locate the vehicle around 6:30 a.m. Thursday in a Rockbridge Road park in Stone Mountain, police said.

Detectives noticed the vehicle, which was not publicly identified, had not left the park; and when they responded to the park, police said detectives saw the 24-year-old suspect dead in the vehicle from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

DeKalb County Police are investigating the suspect's death, police said.

Neither the woman or the suspect were identified Thursday.
