Suspect ID'd In Dunwoody Police Shooting In Brookhaven

Police said they shot the man after he fired at them first during a police chase that started in Dunwoody and ended in Brookhaven.

BROOKHAVEN, GA — Dunwoody Police have identified the man who was shot and injured during the Nov. 1 police chase as Cortavious Buchanan, 21.

He remains in stable condition in the hospital in the custody of the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office, police said. Once released, police said he will be taken to the DeKalb County Jail.

He is being charged on suspicion of four counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a first offender probationer, felony fleeing and eluding, theft by receiving - motor vehicle, possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana more than an ounce, police said.

Buchanan was accused of driving a stolen Dodge Challenger into Dunwoody patrol cars in the area of Ashford Dunwoody Road near Perimeter Center East; and then, leading police on a chase three miles down Ashford Dunwoody into Brookhaven, where the Challenger crashed at the Ashford Dunwoody/Ashford Club Court intersection.

Police previously said he ran from the scene and shot at officers first before they fired back and injured him.

Both Brookhaven and Dunwoody authorities told Patch Brookhaven officers were not involved in the shooting but were assisting with traffic control.
