Upcoming Dunwoody Initiative Aims To Combat Rise Of Drug Overdoses

People will be able to drop off unwanted prescription drugs to police during the National Drug Take-Back Initiative event.

DUNWOODY, GA — The Dunwoody Police Department will participate in a nationwide effort to fight the increased amount of overdose deaths.

The Drug Enforcement Administration's National Drug Take-Back Initiative event will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 22. Police said people will be able to drop off unused or expired prescriptions at Dunwoody City Hall, 4800 Ashford Dunwoody Road.

Residents will be able to remove the medication from the original container or pour the medication from the container into the disposal box.

"DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day reflects DEA’s commitment to Americans’ safety and health, encouraging the public to remove unneeded medications from their homes as a measure of preventing medication misuse and opioid addiction from ever starting. DEA is committed to making our communities safer and healthier, and we can do this by reducing overdoses and overdose deaths," event organizers said on the DEA site.

Liquids or needles, including epi-pens, will not be accepted.
