ICYMI: Marietta Man Gets Life For Stabbing Grandson, Stepson Over Dirty Dishes

Cobb DA: Aaron Edward Strong, 69, sentenced to life in prison for attacking stepson and grandson with a knife, killing one of them.

MARIETTA, GA -- A Marietta man has been sentenced to life in prison for fatally stabbing his stepgrandson and badly injuring his stepson in a knife attack that started over dirty dishes, Cobb County District Attorney Vic Reynolds announced this week. Aaron Edward Strong, 69, was convicted of multiple crimes, including felony murder, aggravated assault, and two counts of possession of a knife during commission of a felony, Reynolds said.

Strong's trial lasted a week, with a Cobb jury reaching a guilty verdict late Monday. (SIGN UP: Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts. Or, if you have an iPhone, download the free Patch app.)

The charges stem from an August 2015 altercation at a home on Terrace Drive in which Strong's stepson, 32-year-old Maurice Arnold, and his 22-year-old stepgrandson, Deandre Arnold, were stabbed multiple times with a 12-inch Colt bowie knife, the DA said.

The incident started with an argument over dirty dishes being left in the kitchen sink, the DA said. Maurice Arnold succumbed to his injuries while Deandre Arnold suffered serious wounds, but survived.

Thirty witnesses spoke in the case, many of them recounting times that Strong had attacked them in an assortment of devilish ways, from one person being shot in the back to another being struck in the arm with a crowbar. Strong's violent exploits even left one person paralyzed, the DA said.

Strong's life sentence was partially because he is a repeat offender, visiting Senior Superior Court Judge Shepherd Howell ruled. Strong also has a conviction for second-degree murder in Florida in 1973, the DA said.

The case was tried by Senior Assistant District Attorney Patricia Hull along with Assistant District Attorney Stephanie Adrean. Strong was represented by Marietta attorney Scott Anderson.
