License Plate Reader Leads To Marietta Arrest Of Violent Suspect

An aggravated assault and robbery suspect was caught by police using new license plate reader technology.

MARIETTA, GA -- New license plate readers recently installed by the Marietta police department has led to the arrest of an aggravated assault and robbery suspect. Landis Colter was arrested after the reader, which had been installed at an undisclosed location, alerted a license plate registered to him. Police said this is the first time the reader has been used to apprehend a wanted felon.

Colter's arrest warrant was secured on Nov. 23, 2018. Police were able to locate and arrest Colter, who they said might may have otherwise continued hiding in plain sight.

Police are continuing to meet with business owners and apartment complex managers to discuss additional readers locations around the city, and they plan to install additional units in the future.
