  1. The Marietta City Council is considering a proposal to rezone the Motel 6 and Studio 6 property into a residential site with 307 furnished studio apartments. The developer, 5th Street Capital, has received approval from the city council's planning commission; the proposal now awaits a vote from the full council. Concerns have been raised about the potential displacement of current residents who rely on the motel for housing; notably, the commission included a stipulation that requires 5th Street Capital to assist former motel residents. 2. A structural failure in a Marietta sewer line resulted in the release of over 100,000 gallons of untreated sewage into Sewell Mill Creek. According to Cobb County Water System officials, the overnight sewage spill overflow was successfully stopped just before 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, Jul. 8. As of Sunday, Jul. 9, repairs and water testing are currently in progress. (WSB Atlanta)
