3 Families Displaced, Firefighter Injured In Apartment Blaze
Three Gwinnett County families were displaced and a firefighter was injured in an overnight apartment fire that took place in Norcross.
NORCROSS, GA -- Three families were displaced and a firefighter was injured in an overnight apartment fire that took place in Norcross. There were no injuries to any civilians as they had evacuated the building prior to the arrival of fire apparatus. The firefighter who sustained a minor injury was able to continue working.
Firefighters responded to a report of a fire on the 1100 block of Forest Vale Way NW in unincorporated Norcross, at 8:38 p.m. The caller to 911 reported that smoke was coming from the second floor.
Crews arrived to find flames were in the walls, flooring system and attic. Per the district commander, multiple attack lines were deployed as fire personnel began suppression activities. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the left side of the structure and protect four units from damage on the right side of the building. The blaze caused heavy fire damage in the attic with moderate smoke and fire damage along the party wall and bathrooms to four units.

Fire investigators are unable to determine the exact cause of the fire but cannot rule out it being electrical in nature. The American Red Cross is assisting with temporary arrangements for 13 occupants, eight adults and five children, from three displaced units. One of the four affected units was unoccupied.
Equipment at the scene included: 5-Engines, 3-Trucks, 1-Squad, 2-Medical Units, 1-Medical Supervisor, 2-Battalion Chiefs, 1-District Commander, and 3-Fire Investigators.
