Christ the King Lutheran Church will celebrate Shrove Tuesday

Christ the King Lutheran Church will celebrate Shrove Tuesday (the church version of Mardi Gras) on February 21 with a Pancake Cook-Off and concert by the Peachtree Symphonic Winds Combo. This annual tradition will be held at the church, 5575 Peachtree Parkway in Norcross.

The public is invited to sample the many varieties of pancakes that will be served. “Over the past several years, different groups in the church along with our staff members have developed a friendly cooking competition,” said the Rev. Dr. Brian Ballard, senior pastor of Christ the King. “We have everything from Scandinavian pancakes to fruit-filled pancakes to the tried-and-true original version, plus all the trimmings.”

The pancake supper begins at 6 p.m. and will be followed at 7 by a concert with musical favorites. “Christ the King has a long-established relationship with the Peachtree Winds,” according to Dr. John Marsh, the church’s director of music ministries. “Our members have enjoyed their music for years and we’re all looking forward to their ensemble playing the very best of Dixieland and Broadway. It’s a program the whole family will enjoy and we invite the public to join us.”

The evening is open to the public and there is no charge for the concert.
