Norcross Boys & Girls Club Receives $24.5K Donation

Toyota Financial Services (TFS) has partnered with auto remarketing firms ADESA, Manheim, and Norwalk Auto Auctions to provide a donation of $24,443 to Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta’s A. Worley Brown location in Norcross. This is part of a larger contribution of $464,425 from Toyota to Boys & Girls Clubs of America that will be divided equally among 19 local Boys & Girls Clubs currently running Diplomas to Degrees (d2D), the organization’s college readiness program.

Launched in partnership with Toyota, d2D provides tools, resources and support to Club teens to help prepare them to move from high school to college graduation.

“Our partnership with Toyota allows us to continue combatting the high school dropout crisis locally and prepare our teens for successful futures in college,” said Missy Dugan, president and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta. “But the support doesn’t stop there.  From Toyota associates volunteering to serve as mentors, to the great efforts led by the auction houses, we appreciate Toyota’s commitment to impacting the lives of our youth.”

The funding provided will support Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta’s continued commitment to academic success for all Club members. This includes keeping education as a focus during the summer, offering the opportunity to take Club members on college campus tours, updating the Club’s technology center and providing expanded learning experiences such as job-shadowing, career fairs and targeted d2D sessions on test-prep and college transition.

The d2D program represents an important pillar in Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta’s broader academic goals. By 2020, the organization is working to ensure that 90 percent of the youth it serves are graduating on time, living healthy lifestyles and giving back to their communities.

“d2D is definitely getting good traction,” said Ray McElroy, Area Sales Manager, Lexus Financial Services/Toyota Motor Corporation. “We’ve seen strong interest on the volunteer side from Toyota and excitement continues to grow as people hear about the project from those who have been touched by the kids and teens at their local Boys & Girls Clubs. “

For every vehicle purchased from Nov. 1-30, 2012, TFS pledged a $50 donation and the auction houses pledged an additional $15 to $25 per vehicle.  This marks the second consecutive year TFS and its auction partners have joined together to raise funds for Boys & Girls Clubs of America.  Last year, 17 Clubs shared donations totaling $302,620.

BGCMA thanks all of its corporate and individual supporters for opening doors for our youth. For more information on how you can become involved with BGCMA, visit www.bgcma.org/get_involved.
